Hey! Can you make a list of movie with incest in them?

OK, here is the list that I have right now. Everything on this list is a movie, and according to how I define it, there is canon incest in each title on the list. Some if it plays a very small role, some of it is one-sided, some is adopted, some of it is has abusive elements. It’s not organized according to the type of familial relationship it is.

I was scrolling through the whispers app and I read about a guy who met this really cool girl through an online video game and became real good friends and he liked her a lot… Until they decided to skype and it turned out to be his sister. Idk I found it hilarious and worth sharing

So funny!!!! Definitely worth sharing!

It remins me of that Danish internet PSA:

still keeping up with arrow? season 4 episode 9 had laurel and her dad quentin lance, mirroring felicity and oliver(plus one or two other things on top of that). I’ve always liked lance and their relationship, platonically but just this one episode kinda fumbled and step into awkwardness.

I always loved Laurel and Quentin’s relationship (platonic or otherwise). They always came first with each other and had a very interesting dynamic. Quentin was a main character in his own right, so he and Laurel got to have all of this independence in the narrative while still being tightly associated with each other and their relationship. It was a good balance.

(They were one of the reasons it was so hard to quit Arrow.)

I had to at least skim this episode after you sent your message. The Oliver/Felicity parallels were bonkers!  Laurel and Quentin had a scene about Quetin making a sacrifice to protect her, and her reassuring him that she can protect herself an make her own choices, and then Oliver and Felicity, directly following, had basically the exact same scene including a lot of the same wording.

And then there was Quentin talking about not getting used to seeing Laurel in her canary outfit, and then someone else who was there said she was dressed like a dominatrix (I think that was the word they used). I was definitely amused by that.

You would think Quentin and Laurel would look normal compared to the weird vibes between Malcolm and Thea but it didn’t happen that way.

So I know you’re a big Cathy/Chris shipper and I was wondering…have you read any of the books in the “expanded Dollanganger universe”? I’m currently reading Christpher’s Diary. Obviously it’s not as good as the books actually written by Andrews but I always wanted to read the story from Chris’s point of view and I guess this is the next best thing. What are your thoughts on these ghost written ones?

Hi, Anon!

I haven’t read Christopher’s Diaries yet, but I have read Garden of Shadows, if that counts as the expanded universe. (It was written by the ghost writer.)

I just consider them optional canon, I guess. Take it or leave it. With Garden of Shadows, I did like the Chris Sr./Corrine stuff, and the twist that they’re actually ¾ siblings instead of half uncle/niece is DELIGHTFUL (though I liked the uncle/niece relationship too), and I also loved Olivia watching Chris as the Dollangangers arrived at Foxworth Hall and thinking that Chris was looking at Cathy in an incestuous way, because it gives some canon backing to the idea that Chris/Cathy wasn’t just a product of their time in the attic, but there was a lot about that book that I didn’t like or that I could have done without.

I haven’t really heard great things about Christopher’s Diary and I was pretty apprehensive about it myself – I don’t want it messing around with my headcanons – so I think I may feel more inclined to reject it than accept it.

did you know scarface(1983) is a remake of a 1932 film? In the original film, he still kills the sister’s love interest… but instead of trying to kill him, she eventually gladly stands by his side at the end. Except when he shows worry about her dying, which disappoints her. But it’s hard to tell how much was changed, the original ending couldn’t be filmed because the censors considered it too heroic. So he had to be demonized.

That’s so interesting, I had no idea that  the well-known Scarface was based on an earlier movie! (Which was apparently based on a book that was loosely inspired by the life of Al Capone. Nothing new under the sun.)

Tony’s actions have provoked a public outcry, and the police are slowly closing in. Then he sees his beloved sister Francesca (“Ceska”, Ann Dvorak) with Guino, and kills his friend in a jealous rage—before the couple can inform him of their secret marriage. His sister runs out distraught and tells the police what he has done. The police move to arrest Tony for Guino’s murder, and Tony holes up in his house and prepares to shoot it out. Ceska comes back, planning to kill him, but ends up helping him to fight the police. Moments later, however, she is killed by a stray bullet.

Given the highly suggestive relationship between Tony and his sister in the remake, I wonder how much of that was based on what was in the original movie.

It’s really interesting that she chooses to help him after he has killed her husband. Very Cesare/Lucrezia!
