ero-minzy:

Klaus : I love my family, you, Elijah. I loved all of you. I know I can be difficult, but I did not make myself this way. It was Mikael who ruined me.

Rebekah : He ruined me, too. That’s what you forget. Centuries later, each of us is broken… you with your anger and paranoia, me with my fear of abandonment and poor Elijah he dedicates himself to everyone but himself.

Life in Pieces

So there’s this new sitcom called Life In Pieces, which is about one large extended family (much like Modern Family), and each episode is broken down into four short stories focusing on different character or set of characters.

There are the patriarch and matriarch, and they have three children – Matt (Thomas Sadoski), who is single and has recently been forced to move back home with his parents; Greg (Colin Hanks) who is married and has a brand-new baby; and a daughter, Heather, who is married with three children. Heather and Tim’s children are Tyler (who is a senior in high school), Samantha (who is 12ish, I think), and a young one, Sophia.

None of the relationships are really standing out yet but there’s potential. Tim, the father of the three kids, isn’t really a shippable figure, and I can’t really see anything with the oldest generation either. Sadly Samantha is a little too young to be really shippable with Tyler or her uncles, but if the show goes for a couple more seasons it could be great. As it is, Samantha and Tyler could still be good. In the latest episode their grandmother, who is a therapist, was forcing the entire family to do a communication exercise, and Samantha and Tyler were paired up together. Tyler told her that she needed to wear deodorant and she replied, “I know what you do in the bathroom.” This shocks him. Not much, but interesting.

From what we’ve sen so far I would guess they have one of those typical comedy brother/sister bickering relationships where they are mean to each other most of the time.

It’d be nice if the show went on for like ten years because the youngest daughter is clearly going to be a knockout. I can already tell she would be the sort of character I would ship with everyone.

Matt is the perfect uncle figure, it’s too bad his nieces are both still children!

Tyler and Heather have some potential. It was revealed in this episode that Tyler is her favorite child and in ep. 1 they were touring colleges and she was getting very emotional about him leaving.

Heather and Matt have some potential too. They hugged in this episode and he came over to help the family move. They’re now going to be living across from the grandparents, which means they’ll be living across the street from Matt as well.

I hope the show does well. The cast is great and I think it’s really cute and funny.

Anyway, I wasn’t going to write about all that, but there was this whole incestuous thing involving one-off characters that I had to mention.

So Greg’s wife, Jen, is having trouble producing enough breast milk for their baby. She and Greg go to visit a “lactation consultant couple” that they were referred to by a friend. (The guy’s name is Teddy, I don’t think we ever get the woman’s name.) So they are referred to as a couple at the beginning, and Teddy doesn’t contradict that.

Then they do an exercise where they all touch each other’s breasts.

Then the woman consultant wants to do demonstrate how to breast feed properly and Teddy volunteers to “be the baby”.

And then it comes out that they are actually brother and sister.

I mean, there’s nothing here to explicitly confirm that they are having sex or living like husband and wife or anything like that, but there’s enough there to think that it’s probably likely. If Greg and Jen’s reactions are anything to go by…

Of course Teddy and his sister are loony but it’s still great.

Have you ever checked out OUAT’s ‘Rose Queen’ ship? It was much more active a couple of years ago, but it’s the pairing of Cora and Regina. Most people shipped them in a toxic way though, with Cora being sexually/emotionally/psychologically abusive towards Regina. It’s the rare m/d (canon and non-canon) vibes that I wish there were more of.

It’s funny, I was thinking of all the villains on OUAT that got sexual with people and I forgot that Cora got that way with her own daughter!

Personally I’m not into M/D but I definitely saw something there. I mean, it’s pretty simple to orient the ship from Regina’s perspective with her mommy issues and stuff but Cora was the going through her closet and sniffing her stuff!

I actually did see a lot of the Rose Queen stuff by chance. I used to track a couple of incest warning tags (like “incest cw”, “tw: incest”, etc.) back in that ship’s heyday (I don’t track them anymore) and there were quite a few posts. It was hard to tell if it was a popular ship or if its most popular posters were just really conscientious. Probably more the latter than anything but I saw quite a lot.

You know for an incest shipper, its funny I never really even thought about shipping David/Emma. Idk why but my mind never even went there which is funny cause even though I don’t like parent/child ships, they have the age thing & not meeting till she’s a grown woman thing which makes it perfect. But when we got the tower dance lesson scene, it was like a light bulb went off in my head. And I was like omg this looks so incestuous how have I never seen this. And now I have so many feels. Sighhh.

2nd David/Emma anon again (I didn’t send the original ask): Reading your views on Dark!Emma touching Snow and not Charming, yeah I definitely think it was on purpose because specially now that she is the dark one, if she had an interaction like that with David it would come off as really sexual and incest-y. I don’t think we’re gonna get much of their taunting interaction for that reason because ouat is a family show and they can’t even hint at things like that on it sadly, as hot as it would be

I’m not surprised that you didn’t go there right away because the show really downplays their relationship. Most of the attention is on Emma/Snow as far as Emma’s relationship with her past and lost family goes. And I actually think Josh Dallas is really good at turning it off, if you know what I mean. He can just stand there like a stone if he wants to. That’s not a critique of his acting, I just think he’s capable of being very benign in a scene. So he can have a scene with Emma where absolutely nothing registers, and we saw a lot of that in the first season when he didn’t remember the Enchanted Forest and was having his angsty affair with Snow. They would talk to each other but it the subject was always something else.

But then they started having scenes here and there after they got their memories back and Emma learned that they really were her parents. And the crown jewel is definitely that scene where they dance. Josh definitely couldn’t – or didn’t – turn it off there!

With the two of them I just keep thinking that if you didn’t have context and couldn’t hear what they were saying that they look so much like a couple, or like love interests, depending upon what’s going on. Even when he tries to be fatherly it’s still got this oomph to it. It is fatherly but it’s also more.

I think you’re right about the show avoiding dark!Emma and David interactions. OUAT villains are all super flirty. Regina genuinely detested David and they still had a lot of sexual tension. I can’t imagine dark!Emma saying anything directly to David without it coming off a little incesty. I think the show people know that. Even if the dialogue and acting was meant to be as robotic as possible it would still come off a little incest-y. So sadly yes I think they will avoid it a lot. But one can hope. I sincerely doubt they would ever imply actual flirting but any dialogue at all would be great.

I do love OUAT as it is, all Disney-ish and family friendly. But sometimes I imagine an HBO OUAT and I die a little.

Maybe someone already asked you, sorry if is the case, but you know about books where the main topic is incest? I have preference in relationships only between siblings, but any would be great. Sorry for asking something so specific. Thanks you! Your blog is amazing :)

Nothing to apologize for, Anon! That’s why I’m here.

There aren’t many books where the main subject is the incestuous relationship. Definitely Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma, Wasteland by Francesca Lia Block, the Forbidden Flower series by Diane Rinella, and Ada or Ardor by Vladimir Nabokov.

Also less healthy but central relationships in White Horses by Alice Hoffman, and Josie and Jack by Kelly Braffet.

These are all brother/sister.

And then here you can find by top book recs. Sometimes the relationship is not the main focus of the book but they are all good and shippable.

Here is my tag for all my lists of books. Also, on my goodreads profile you can go through all the books I have read here, or take a look at the ones I haven’t read yet here. (I think those links will work. It’s hard to tell because I’m linked in.)

I hope that helps, Anon!

Hi, just wondering since I can’t seem to access your list, have you consider Charles/Diana from the secret circle? It was one of my first incest OTPs

Hi!

Yeah, there’s no list. There’s going to be a list…someday. But as of right now, there is not list. So it is not your fault that you couldn’t find it!

But actually, I don’t think anyone has ever mentioned Charles and Diana! It’s so cool that it was one of your first incest ships. I always find those the most interesting to hear about when they’re non-canon.

I did not watch The Secret Circle, so I don’t know too much about them.

I found this wiki page about their relationship.

WOW.

Thanks!!!
